Vaccination Efficacy

Immune status can affect efficacy of vaccination

Various factors can prevent an animal from optimally responding to vaccination - this is why a veterinary health check is vitally important at the time of vaccines. Factors that may result in sub-optimal response vaccination include underlying diseases (not necessarily detectable), worm burdens and other parasites, immune-suppressive medications and other stresses.

Annual vaccination allows boosting of a sub-optimal immune response and therefore provides best protection against disease. Where we are dealing with very serious diseases such as parvovirus, this is especially important.
