Shaping the future of animal health

Meet Jordan Priest

Name: Jordan Priest
Occupation: Range Park stud groom and Director of Priest Sport Horses- breaking and training
Town & State: Scone NSW
Equestrian Discipline: Dressage

Name of your horse(s) at the moment?
Although we have a large number of thoroughbreds, in our thoroughbred performance program, my star horse is 'We Love Lola' stable name Lola.

Name of your first horse?
Cadbury or 'Romeo's Brother' for sponsorship purposes was my first horse, a Warmblood x Welsh Cob

When did you start riding?
I started riding at the age of 13 at a riding school called Orchard End, then moved to Sterntaler Equestrian Services, where Martina Kovacs introduced me to the competition scene. I then moved to training and grooming for top dressage rider Lizzie Wilson- Fellows who trained me up the levels as well as taught me to break and gave me some life changing rides on exceptional horses. I then moved to the hunter and started Priest Sport Horses where we break and compete dressage and event horses.

What have been the highlights in your riding career so far?
Highlights in my career so far have been training my first horse to medium level dressage receiving sponsorship on him for winning and high placings. He was also a brilliant eventer and placed in the international Camden Equestriad event, the biggest cross country I've ever ridden!

Getting to ride Larapinta Freespirit dressage stallion, owned by Lizzie Wilson Fellows at the time. One of the most amazing horses I've ever been lucky enough to sit on

Competing Hunter Valley Warmbloods HV Bollero in Medium level

Rehoming over 20 thoroughbreds in our thoroughbred performance program

What other interest besides horses do you have?
I love fashion, shoes in particular !

What is the one item in your tack room you just can't live without?
My helmet, I literally could not be alive without it! It's so important to wear it even with the most trust worthy horses, accidents can happen!

What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
My dad, told me 'remember to visualise the absolute best outcome in the arena before I actually ride it' I have used visualisation ever since and it removes so much doubt from my mind and really gets my head in the game. Thanks dad!

What advice would you give to young riders?
To enjoy the time you have with your horses, spending every possible second with my first horse and my horsey friends was some of the best times of my life. Dont be in a rush to grow up!

What is the most important aspect of your horse's health for your sport?
Soundness in the legs and feet, dressage is very tough on that part of the horse. Its so important to warm up and warm down properly, as well as use appropriate leg protection and choose the best supplements to support them.

What is your favourite Virbac product and why?
Feramo Every Horse suppliment works wonders on my horses, it helps the horses look super in the dressage ring, and helps strengthen hooves something which is very important on the hard country land!

Future Goals?
I have so many goals for the future, short term I would like to qualify We Love Lola for state and national championships this year. Longer term would be competing We Love Lola at the CDI and Dressage with the stars festival. Even further down the track is to represent Australia in international competition and to one day compete at the Olympics!
