Introducing the Cydectin Platinum Cup: real producers and real results!

13 October, 2025

Virbac Australia has recently launched the Cydectin Platinum Cup, a dynamic new initiative bringing together twelve commercial beef producers across NSW to put Cydectin Platinum to the test. The Cydectin Platinum Cup is all about showing what really matters on-farm – results! Working with real commercial beef operations, this program will highlight the clear advantages of switching from outdated single-active drenches to a more effective, persistent combination drench.

The Platinum Cup schedule has been separated into four cohorts, consisting of three producers in each. Every producer who participates in the Platinum Cup receives a complimentary Faecal Egg Count Reduction Test (FECRT), as well as trialling the world's first dual-active pour-on drench containing moxidectin to see the difference in young stock performance.

Working closely with their Virbac Area Sales Manager, each producer will treat an agreed class of cattle with Cydectin Platinum, conduct a Faecal Egg Count Reduction Test (FECRT) to assess drench resistance, and monitor weight gain over a 60-day period.

To ensure accurate monitoring throughout the program, the Cup has partnered with Land Watch Australia, a trusted industry name in on-farm surveillance. Their advanced, real-time surveillance technology gives producers valuable insights right where it counts, in the paddock. To track performance throughout the trial, Virbac is supplying a precision portable weighing device from Optiweigh, allowing producers to accurately measure weight gains in the herd.

By getting involved, two lucky producers will have the chance to take home a Land Watch Station Manager (PTZ) 4G camera system, valued at $6,600. In addition, the winners will also receive a Virbac Animal Health Pack, valued at $4,500, which includes: Cydectin Platinum 5 L, Multimin Chrome 500 mL, and Websters 7-in-1 Vaccine for cattle 500 mL.

These prizes are designed to complement the Cup program, giving producers the tools to support herd management, monitor performance, and maintain ongoing animal health.

Producer Spotlights

The Cup has officially kicked off with its first producers in NSW, and already, some important lessons are emerging. Tom Mulligan from Ben Lomond, Jake Cutcliffe from Moree and Ben Jenkins from Tooraweenah have each benefited firsthand from the program, uncovering issues and insights that are helping shape herd management decisions for the future.

Tom Mulligan – Ben Lomond, NSW
When Tom joined the Cydectin Platinum Cup, he was keen to see what the program could reveal about his herd’s performance. He put forward 358 crossbred steers for the program, working alongside his Virbac Area Sales Manager to carry out a FECRT before treatment. The results quickly highlighted that his cattle were also carrying liver fluke.

“Joining the Cydectin Platinum Cup has already been a big benefit for my herd,” Tom explained. “It hasn’t just been about the initial weight gains we were looking for – the testing actually uncovered an underlying issue with fluke that would have held us back in the long run.”

Without the program, this challenge may have gone undetected, potentially impacting long-term productivity. Now, with this knowledge, Tom has been able to put a treatment plan in place which includes Cydectin Platinum used in conjunction with Nitrofluke, to address the roundworm and liver fluke resistance issues he had encountered with the assistance from his ASM to address the problem and protect future gains.

Jake Cutcliffe – Moree, NSW
For Jake, the Cydectin Platinum Cup has been a turning point in his parasite management strategy. Results from his involvement revealed that single-active drenches are no longer working effectively in his herd. This discovery has reinforced the importance of using Cydectin Platinum at induction to ensure persistent, reliable protection.

“Recognising that you can’t control markets, weather or feed, the cost to carry is an important consideration with an optimal induction being the key to fast weight gain,” said Jake. In his initial FECRT after using a single-active drench, Jake’s cattle had an egg count of 400 epg (eggs per gram). After treatment with Cydectin Platinum, he was happy to see 100% efficacy results with an egg count of zero, setting his cattle up with the best foundation going forward.

“Using Cydectin Platinum at induction within our operation assures us that our animals are set up for success going forward,” said Jake.

Benn Jenkins – Tooraweenah, NSW
At Tooraweenah, Benn Jenkins put forward a group of trade Angus steers averaging 378 kg to take part in the Cydectin Platinum Cup. Each animal was treated with Flukazole C and Cydectin Platinum Pour-On, and faecal egg counts were recorded on day zero at 96 epg. Egg was reduced to 0 epg 13 days after Cydectin Platinum treatment.

Since then, Benn has been encouraged by the progress he’s seeing. “It’s been really positive to see the steers putting on weight since starting the Cup,” he said. “It gives me confidence that the treatments are working and that the cattle are on track to continue to perform well going forward.”

For Benn, the early results reinforce the value of a consistent parasite management approach and give him confidence his herd is performing to its potential.
